In 2017, Verea achieved a 6.65% reduction in CO2 emissions throughout the entire tile manufacturing process.
In Verea we renew, for the second consecutive year, the “Calculo y Reduzco” seal granted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment (Magrama), in recognition of the effort we have made to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 6,65%. This amount is double what is calculated in the previous measurement of the ministry.
Verea’s commitment to the environment
Since 2012, we measure the total CO2 emissions per ton produced from our tiles with the Magrama Carbon Footprint Calculator. It is what is called the 1+2 scope footprint, where both fossil fuels consumed, natural gas used in the combustion process and the diesel consumed by transport, as well as the electricity used in the industrial process are computed.
In recent years, in Verea we have undertaken investments worth more than 150,000 euros to execute a plan to reduce direct emissions produced in furnaces and dryers, through energy reuse and improved insulation.
We also reduce CO2 emissions from electricity to zero, through an indirect emission reduction plan whereby the two production lines only consume electricity from renewable sources. The adoption of other technical measures such as the replacement of alternative lamps with LED lamps, the purchase of variable speed drives for heavy-duty motors and the replacement of timers for activation photocells have contributed to achieving the objective.
