  • Verea becomes a partner of the United Nations Global Compact

The progress report of the Galician company Tejas Verea, manufacturer of roof tiles and efficient solutions for ceramic tile roofing, shows that the company has implemented initiatives that respond to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Luis Verea, general manager, stresses that “the global economic scenario has changed a lot in recent years and in the face of this uncertainty, we believe that business involvement in sustainable development is more important than ever”. For this reason, Verea has joined the United Nations Global Compact as a partner, with the aim of advancing its sustainability performance.

SDG Progress Report

In environmental matters, Verea has implemented the Sustainable Mining Management system in accordance with the UNE 22480:2019 standard. It has also conducted an energy audit and implemented the energy management system according to ISO 50.001 for efficient and more sustainable energy use.

It renewed the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge’s ‘Calculo y Reduzco’ seal to reduce its CO2 emissions, despite being considered a low-emission facility and therefore exempt from emissions trading. In the use of non-renewable materials, it has implemented a progressive reduction of single-use plastic in the palletisation of its products.

In social matters, it has increased local employment by 14%, incorporating staff from disadvantaged groups, thanks to the collaboration with the Centro de Información á Muller de Ordes, and has promoted a food collection for the Food Bank of the Concello de Mesía.

Within the framework of the Equality Plan, it has carried out a salary audit to ratify that there is no gender discrimination. In relation to staff, it has invested in training in technical aspects, occupational risk prevention and the environment.

Four years after joining the Global Compact, Tejas Verea’s objective of making progress in promoting all the SDGs has been achieved. If in 2019 the company had developed actions framed in 13 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), today it has implemented initiatives in all of the SDGs, making progress in areas such as responsible production and consumption or strategic alliances to advance sustainability.
